How to Handle a Lash Client Who Is Always Late

As a lash tech, your appointment times are important. When you’re working back-to-back clients, one person arriving late can quickly have a knock-on effect for the rest of your day.
But what do you do when it’s not a one-off? If you have a lash client who is always late, it’s important to handle the situation professionally while still maintaining a good relationship with your client.
Have a Clear Late Policy
One of the easiest ways to deal with late clients is to have a clear lateness policy in place before there’s ever a problem.
Your policy could explain how many minutes late a client can be before their appointment needs to be shortened, changed or potentially cancelled. You can also explain whether a late arrival will still be charged the full appointment price.
Make sure your policy is easy to find when clients book, and consider including it in your booking confirmation or reminder messages.
Don’t Be Afraid to Say Something
If a client is repeatedly late, ignoring the issue probably won’t make it disappear.
You don’t need to be rude or confrontational. A simple, friendly conversation can make a big difference. Explain that you have other clients booked after them and that their lateness can affect the amount of time available for their treatment.
Sometimes clients genuinely don’t realise how much their lateness affects your schedule.
Give Them a Reminder
If you know a particular client often runs late, sending a reminder before their appointment can help.
Rather than simply saying, “Your appointment is at 10am”, you could remind them to arrive on time and explain that arriving late may mean there is less time available for their lash treatment.
A quick reminder can prevent the same situation happening again.
Don’t Rush the Lash Treatment
One of the biggest mistakes you can make when a client arrives late is trying to squeeze their entire appointment into the remaining time.
Lash extensions require care, precision and attention to detail. Rushing because a client is late isn't worth compromising the quality of your work.
If there isn’t enough time to complete the treatment safely and to your usual standard, follow the late policy you have in place.
Be Consistent
If you have a late policy, make sure you actually use it.
Allowing one client to arrive 20 minutes late without consequences while enforcing the policy with someone else can make things difficult. Consistency helps clients understand that your appointment times are there for a reason.
Your time is part of your business too.
Consider Why They're Always Late
There could be a genuine reason behind a client's lateness. Maybe they struggle with childcare, work commitments, parking or travel.
If it happens regularly, you could ask whether a different appointment time would work better for them.
Sometimes moving their appointment by 30 minutes can solve the problem completely.
Remember That Your Time Matters
As a lash tech, it can be tempting to keep your clients happy at all costs. But constantly waiting for late clients, rushing treatments or running behind for everyone else can become frustrating and affect your working day.
Being professional doesn't mean you have to accept repeated lateness.
Set your expectations, communicate them clearly and stick to your policies. Your clients will know exactly where they stand, and you can protect your time while still providing the high-quality lash treatments they expect.
